Sometimes I never know when or where these articles come
from. This one comes all the way from Margreten, Holland at
the American WWII Cemetary. My hubby and I got the awesome
privilege of being there on Sunday before Memorial Day this
year.
As we walked through rows of white crosses and star of Davids
I noticed a little girl about 5 years old. She intrigued me
because of the preplexed look on her face. I followed her
for a while trying to figure out or get some insight into
her take on what was going on...I was not disappointed.
They looked at 3 more names on the crosses and then the litle
girl tugged at her mama's coat. I got a little closer as her
mama knelt down. The little girl asked, "What are all
the crosses for?" "These are some of the people
who died in World War II."
The little girl still look preplexed, "How did they
all die in rows?" Al this point the mama picked up her
daughter and gave her a big hug, and with a tear rolling down
her cheek the mama said, "No, Sweetie, they did not die
in rows. This is how they are laid so we can remember them."
The little girl patted her mama's face and said, "Don't
cry. I'll member them no matter how they are planted!"
At this point the mama looked at me and I looked back both
had smiles and tears for we both knew that the reason for
the sacrifice was what she was holding in her arms.
Sometimes relief also comes from remembering and saying 'Thank
You!' to those who have given all so that we can laugh!
Thank You to all those who have sacrificed by service or
as family members! One day is set aside for us to remember
but we will not forget! |
